Day care/Creches

Post by kajol on Wed 9 Jul 2014 - 7:10

Do the one your kids go to close for 3 weeks in July?
or when and how long do they close? and what's your alternate plan for care for that period?

Zeke goes to school and then aftercare. but during the holidays he goes to the creche where he goes for aftercare. So thank goodness we do not have to make alternative plans.

Gen goes to play school and they only close the week between 24/12 - 02/01 each year, very lucky in that regard.

That is so nice AC! In our area the creche close say 15 Dec and only open again 15January. So they closed for a whole month and you have to pay full in Dec and Jan! Rip off I tell you!

That must be so inconvenient.
I wonder what I would've done?
No family or friends in Joburg who is at home during the day (no family at all in anyway)
What do you do if you cannot afford to pay for extra care during the day or a full time nanny at home?

I am luck Lils but don't know about you our fees are high .....

Good question A, my mom stays in the in brackenfell and my mom in law cannot really take care of gen for more than a few hours at a time and we sure as hell cannot pay someone to come in and take care of her, I don't know what some parents do!!

Well we pay R550 per month (that is school and aftercare). We dont pay transport as I take him and his dad or grandpa picks him up. Fees are also very much area specific.

Dec holidays we get someone to look after him as we cannot get off. Its extra money that we have to give out, but during the year we save up for that.

My sister used to look after Zeke when he was smaller. BUT now we cant let him go there as he is 'too' big and wants to run off in the streets and where she lives, all the kids run around in the road. and most times there are no adults outside to supervise. So from last year we decided that we will get someone. And last year he had a very kind lady that looked after him. Her daughter is the same age as him. And they got along very well. This year she started to work again, so we are back to looking for someone.

You see, Gen are in a Playcentre, fees are high but it is a really good school she is really happy and I am happy to give up about anything to pay it. Smile

They just easy to phone when they sick, the second she has fever, vomits or runny tummy then she goes home and klaar.

Happy to hear that she will start to potty train at school in November and we will take away the bottles the end of the year so they really assist in the big things so much

That is really nice. I also would not mind paying that bit extra if we had such a service or Playcentre in our area.

Zeke is going to big school next year, so we will have to pay extra at aftercare for during the holidays... He is going to Grade R  :Worry  My boy is growing too fast!

Shoe cannot believe Grade R already!! Which school did he get into? I am already arguing with DH about the schools for Gen, she must go to Greenfields girls (in our area) which I do not have a problem with but that means she must go to Barkley House for Grade G and I really do not like that place at all!!! But these days you just do not get in at any school other than the one in your area

They closed for a week now (30/06-04/07) and then December holidays. They spent the week at my folks... Normally we take leave during that week and go somewhere, but this year it didn't work out with M being sick and sort of being in isolation almost.

Office closes during December, so we are home with them luckily.

Well our initial first choice school, we were there at 2h45am for registration!!!! Then they just blew their chance cos even he got in there we decided no. Their policies are warped and their scholl governing body pissed me off.. They were quite rude. And so we started applying at other schools immediately. And the one school we also wanted him in, he got in. We so happy about that. And we didnt have to queu for forms and stuff!!! Its one of the best schools in Mitchell's Plain, a bit out of our area, BUT we dont mind.
