Alternative for Methylphenidate (Ritalin & Concerta)

Post by Lilly on Tue 5 Nov 2013 - 8:57

D is still adamant about him needing medication even though the pediatrician said its not an option, at least not now! so I was thinking maybe a natural option, something that can boost his concentration. Natural stuff takes up to 12 weeks before you start seeing results, so I want to start asap.

Mel, have you considered tissue salts? The Natura range has a website that tells you exactly what everything does. I can't remember if there is something specifically for concentration, but it might be worth a look.

Let me guess, she's 20-ish, fresh out of college and have no idea how to control the littlies?

actually no, she is cold heated grown woman, that look like something that escaped out of a harry potter scene. I am exaggerating a tiny bit but she is old (60) and grey and cant function with out her medication (ritalin) and she has taught pre primary for 35 year (I get reminded every chance she gets..) therefore she has more knowledge about ADHD/ADD than a highly recommended pediatrician...

Yes, but that also means she is tired of dealing with busy kids. Maybe time for her to retire, rather than trying to get them all medicated?

I agree Karien
have you also thought of doing some morning exersize with him to tire him out a little? I know every bit of sleep is important.

Also I am sure someone can make you a specific homeopathic remedy for him. I am sure I remember having some for exam time.

she should have retired with Noah, jokes aside she has decided to retire at 65..

Kerry, the thing is D is not hyperactive, he is a bit of a dreamer who is happy to wait his turn, even if his turn is last. He is happy with one friend. Hates being in the spot light. They had their preschool graduation last night, and it was obvious that he felt out of place on stage..

he just turned 6 (3weeks ago) and they are comparing him with kids who turned 6 early in the year. Our pead said clearly he is still young and he'll have a look at his report card at the end of the first term next year and then decide if medication is an option, but not now.

Oh gosh

have you thought of keeping him back a year so he is a similar age to the rest of his class mates?
I did not know meds would help with day dreaming?? but I am sure there must be something homepathic you can try?

I was young for my year (most kids were almost 1 yr older than me) and stayed back a year in grade 8 best decision ever for me.

thanks M! I'll def have a look!

Kerry, we wanted to keep him back this year, but the primary school insist that he goes to Gr 1 because grade R is informal and he will only benefit emotionally.
