both boys started sleeping through the night at 7weeks. D's sleeping issues started at 9 months, he used to wake up every single hour! I tried everything, nothing worked, wakings got less but he only really started sleeping through after his 3rd Bday. Sorry T, no advice, but I do know how you feel!

Abi was sleeping in our room next to our bed an would wake up at least once a night. A friend mentioned her little boy was sleeping through the night at 3months old as soon as they put him in his own room. So, we gave it a try and guess what....Abi sleeps from 8pm-630.

I think we were waking her with our moving, talking, snoring and what ever else we do in our sleep.

Try baby in their own room and see how it goes.

Evan has also always been a bad sleeper. Finally got him to sleep through by giving him a mix of Annique's relax and nightrest teas...and then he went for his tonsil op and we're back to having a newborn in the house! We think it's more molars than an aftereffect of the operation, but it's quite tiring to get up 4 to 5 times a night! You have my sympathy!!! Try the relax and nightrest tea, though!! Takes a few evenings to kick in, but it might just do the trick. (Unfortunately Evan refuses to drink any tea at the moment. We started telling him it's coffee a few evenings ago and he actually slept through last night, so let's hope there's light at the end of the tunnel for us!!)

M only really started sleeping through at about 18 months. She was a real tough cookie when it came to sleep. We tried allergex, vallergan (which helped for a while) and every other dosing method you can think of (on prescription from our paed) and she actually started sleeping better once we moved her from cot to bed... I think she banged herself awake in the cot...

Hi TT

Saj also only slept through just before his 3rd birthday. Sadi is still a nightmare. Nothing works for her. She wakes up about 5 times and screams her head off!

I wonder if the tea will work for her if allergex etc does nothing...

Post by Mandri on Tue 27 Aug 2013 - 12:48

TT I ordered the Annique tea and it said on the website it is safe from 6 months. I should get mine by the weekend.

Be careful with the Allergex, the Antihistamines cause heart rhythm changes. I know a lot of people use it under doctor supervision but after I read this I can't get myself to give Luhan Allergex.

Re: Sleep....

Post by Karien on Wed 28 Aug 2013 - 9:26

Yep, the Annique is safe for them. We used the Nightrest combined with the Relax for Evan and that did the trick. Just don't give up after the first night or two, it takes a few days to 'kick in'. What I did with Evan was to put a bag of each in a big bottle and fill it with boiled water, then I'd put half of it in with his dudu-bottle and put the rest in the fridge for the following evening. At one stage I also added a teaspoon of the Purity 'Good nights' malt drink, but I've been battling to get it, so not sure if the make it anymore.

Okay ladies, most of you probably saw that we are having hell in our house with Tristin (9months) not sleeping for the last couple of nights, and last night was no different. So how do I get hold of this Annique tea?

Re: Sleep....

Post by Joleen on Fri 6 Sep 2013 - 8:48

MO - I did not know about Allergex. Not that I ever give it but will toss it.

TT - Erin slept through from 2 months and Wade at 9 months after sleep training. Then mine were sharing a room. Erin is definitely a better sleeper but Wade falls asleep quicker and Erin will sing herself to sleep "Amen black sheep". Wade wakes up earlier than she does.

I think it definitely differs from child to child but hand in there with the own room. Is she not too hot or two cold? Nothing in her room bothering her?

A night light perhaps? Could that not help or a CD of music?

Thanks!!!
No we checked everything. Her room is dark. If we put a night light she thinks its play time. Her room is 21C she sleeps in a sleeping bag so cant be hot or cold? I have a sleep sheep that plays a heartbeat noise. That does help but she still wakes 3 or 4 times.
What method of sleep training did u do?

Re: Sleep....

Post by Joleen on Mon 9 Sep 2013 - 7:10

TT -Baby Love - Jacqui Flint.  At the time they did not have an agent in PE so I went via JHB.  It was the best gift I could have given myself.  Firstly it got Erin off her dummy at 9 months and the major plus is that my kids can sleep anywhere.  Make them a bed at a friend somewhere and they sleep.  They dont use night lights and even sleep with the door closed.  They never fight about sleeping and it is dead silence - no music when they go to sleep. In the begining I used background music.  I can have noise around the house it does not worry them and they happily sleep over weekends having an afternoon nap waking up as late as 4pm if I put them down at 2pm on a Sunday and can easily go back to sleep at 7pm after a late afternoon nap.

Oh my word with Rachel yes, best thing I ever did. We did it for Emma about 2 months ago and it worked but she is waking again now. I can leave her to cry and for 2 days it comes right and then she starts waking again.

Maybe work at getting the snots gone first and then try the sleep training again?
