Gluten & Casein Free diet

Post by Lilly on Mon 19 Aug 2013 - 7:29

Hey!

I need advice regarding a Gluten & Casein free diet, if any of you have any information or know someone who is on a GFCF diet!

Wihan has never battled with constipation until about 2-3 months ago, Wihan refused to eat anything in the evenings, except 2minute noodles, and not wanting to send him to bed on a empty stomach, I gave it to him! He started getting constipated, so much that I had to start with laxatives etc and pin him down on his back, push his legs back up to his chest in order to help poo! Its horrible, he is in such pain! I only connected the dots when Wihan started throwing up in the evenings.. noodles=gluten. I eliminated the noodles anad the puking stopped, constipation improved but its back with a vengeance! I could be wrong but I think the noodles might have a caused a gluten sensitivity!

I also know that a GFCF diet is recommended for children with autism although be we believe W was misdiagnosed! so we decided to remove gluten from his diet starting today, also removing sugar and we'll see how it goes from there. Loads of info on the internet available on gluten free diets but not so much on casein free diet. We wont be taking dairy (yet) but if push comes to shove, I have to be ready! W loves his yoghurt & cheesed I'll need substitutes.

So I need all the information I can get!

Hi, might be worthwhile checking out a site for Asperger's. I think thats the spectrum of autism that usually co-works with a casein free diet?

Ok so I chucked 90% of my grocery cabinet out, geez so much stuff contain gluten! went shopping and replaced everything with gluten free foods ( I am officially broke!) because we stay in such a small town, its hard to find gluten free stuff, but most of Ina Paarmans stuff is actually gluten free - yay! and our Pick & Pay agreed to bake gluten free bread.

I'll def have a look at all the links as soon as the boys have gone to bed!

Hoping that the changes will help Wihan xx

Also get rice noodles if you can as that is a favourite food for LO's

when my boys were dairy free they loved the woolies soya yogurts. but ya do one thing at a time. you may find some gluten foods are worse than others.

It takes getting used to Smile but my boys love the woolies MSG free rice buiscuits/crackers so I used to give them that rather than bread.

I miss the regular bread more than he does, he is still slightly constipated but its better, I know the gluten has to work out of his system.
