Formula

Post by Alleycat on Thu 16 May 2013 - 7:00

Morning Ladies,

Need some input from you guys, I think there was this question some time ago but will ask again anyway :Embarassed

Seems like this mamma's milkies are starting to dry up.

What should I use NAN or S26?

Then I was thinking of starting it slow while I still have some milkies going, just like maybe one formula a day and then more as I produce less. What do you think? Or is it better just to switch over completely?

I was really hoping that I would be able to supply her for bit longer but since I am back at work I am producing less and less every day :Sad

I heard that NAN changed the recipe of the formula and moms complain that their babies get sick (smelly wind, runny tummies, dark green poop and very bad cramps) and as soon as they switch to another formula the symptoms stop!

D was on Isomil (soy) for allergies.

W was on Infacare, he thrived on it! Lots of OPM moms used Infacare. plus its an affordable formula!

Zeke was on Lactogen (for hungry babies). And then Infacare 2.

I was still breastfeeding at night eventhough he was on formula. and then at 6months he weaned himself off as I had very little milk supply.

I used S26 gold (I've heard they say it's the closest to breastmilk?) And I never had problems with the milk. Baby city is the cheapest on their formula (S26 specifically) when you buy the BIG tins.

I was leaning towards S26 gold but some other mommies are also very keen on Infacare

I suppose it also depends on your baby as I hear some babies could just refuse to drink a specific milk.

Think I will try small tin of something first and see if she takes it or not. Hopefully she will not be to fussy. She refuses to eat the rice cereal but do the maize, I found that so funny at the start that such a small little person could have a preference

Wha ha ha! Oh, these babies have a will of their own from the start hey.

Yes, best is to go by trial and error. Some will take to a certain milk and others not. Only way to know is to test.

Good luck!

Yip start with a small tin. We went through 3 kinds of formula before we ended up with Lactogen.

Alleycat you can go to your gynea.. There is something called eglonyl (sp) that they can give you. I know Bel used it when she was breastfeeding Kaelyn.

:affraid

Onthou, hoe meer jy stimuleer, hoe meer melk gaan daar wees, so as jy nie uitmelk by die werk nie, gaan dit 'n probleem wees...

Twee groot blikke 'n maand!!!

I went with Infacare for the only reason that it worked out cheaper than Lactogen (which he thrived on). I was unemployed so I had to go on what was easy on my pocket. One thing I learned is that if its pricier its not necessarily better, Zander did VERY well on Infacare.

Totally agree with you Honey, it looks like Infacare are very popular now and of all the pricing I did it is basically in the same price range than NAN now and S26 Gold are slightly more at some places but will do some more window shopping Smile

Of all the feed back and Dr Google me and hubby did it really looks like the three, NAN, S26 Gold and Infacare are on the same level of being used. For me I don't then really mind which one I will now just have to see which one my little drama queen will take and have no reactions to it. Going to look for small tins and try them out until Genna Bear are happy.

Thank you so much you guys! Most things have been so easy will my little missy and I just went on instinct but in some things you do need some advice as you just don't know!

Ivanka had very bad cramps and wind and she was very constipated so we had to switch to the Similac Total Comfort or go crazy.
It's R175 per tin and she drinks 8 tins per month. Which equals R1400 per month. Then I cannot begin to tell you how much money I have spent on Cerelac, Purity (yes I am a working mom who does not make my childs food myself), Purity Juice, teething biscuits etc.
What breaks y heart about it all is that she refuses milk and food now that she is sick, so she only drink a few sips, and then wastes the rest. Hard earned money flowing down the drain.....

Ag dis net so 'n hassle.
Ek moet se dit freak my vreeslik uit as sy so siek is. Ek is so bang sy kom iets oor, en ek kan dit eenvoudig nie vat as sy so hartverskeurend huil nie. Ek is obviously nie so 'n sterk persoon as wat ek gedink het ek is nie, veral nie as dit by my kind kom nie.
