Wihan's progress

Post by Lilly on Tue 9 Apr 2013 - 11:40

In my eyes he is perfect but when I see other 2year olds, I cant help to notice how behind he really is when it comes to language and speech, its hard and I still feel cheated and its heartbreaking, I watch him fall asleep and I wish I could climb into his head. Only God knows how I long two hear him say "mommy I love you" but I am sure that with time it will come and that I'll appreciate it so much more...

W sees his OT once a week and were finally getting our own Speech Therapist, so he is starting with ST twice a week from May. His OT is very happy with his progress so far, he's participating like he should and his language has improved, he is saying more meaningful words. They were playing keys and he said "sleutels" . I know that one day we will look back and this nightmare will be a distant memory.

I have given up on potty training, we'll try again in the summer. He started taking off his nappy after making a poo. I had to clean up finger paint poo the other day Puke

Thinking of you Lilly. It sounds as though W is progressing nicely though.
I know it wont make you feel any better but W is a lot more advanced than my friend's little boy of 3 who was recently diagnosed with Autism. He wasnt saying a single word and only now after being at an Able Centre is starting to use hand signals when he wants something. He is starting to say one or two words now too but W seems to be waaaaay ahead. Also the cutest little boy and by looking at him, you'd NEVER say he has Autism.

Regarding the potty training, 2 of Jareds classmates who are 4yrs old still poo in their pants sometimes.........so hang in there! wink

Thanks Zee, my heart bleeds for other parents with autistic children , its really hard coming to terms with a diagnosis, but I believe that W will be as normal as D. I started the boys on Solal Child 2 months ago, extra Omega 3 and maximum potency probiotic and extra vit d and since then the real progress started, so I believe we on the winning path!

Yes one day you will look back on all this and you will be amaze how far he has come. When I worked at Vrystaat Nasorg in Bloemfontein we always said its God's angels on earth who get children with special needs. I know when your in the situation it doesn't feel like it, but know God walk the whole path with you.
I know its not easy at all but he will get better and he will make you proud.

Thanks Ilze.
