Pill suggestions?

Post by Guest on Thu 24 Sep 2009 - 18:28

Okay so I'm going on to the Pill to try and regulate the bleeding and see what it does. Any suggestions? For which do I need a prescription (want to avoid visiting the doc). I know of Minerva, Triphasil, Nordette and Microval. Which is best and does Medical aid (Discovery) pay for it?

Microval not nice - continuous break through bleeding , I used to use triphasal before I had kids 9 years ago but bad bad Evil or Very Mad pms .
Try the chemist they can give advise and will know which one the medical aid pays for! Good Luck .
My doc recomends the mirina loop to help regulate bleeding have you maybe considered that?

Please stay away from Triphasal, used it before and until today I believe that is way I struggle to fall pregnant again.

I found yasmin to be the best for me. Even though with what I know now I never bloody needed contraception but anyway. I suppose it is trial and error cause we are all different. Apparently there is also a new one called Yaz that everyone is raving about. I am on Discovery and they covered my yasmin.

Honey I used Femodine never had to go to the doc it is a bit expensive (plus minus R70) but Discovery pays for it - also I never had any weight problems on that and my skin looked beautiful and bleeding was only 2 days heavy and 3 days light

I'm on triphasil. Get it at the clinic for free. I send my domestic every 3 months. (they give 3 packs at a time) I've never had any problems. I loose weight easily. Got pregnant within 4 months of TTC, my skin is great & PMS not bad. 2 days of heavy bleeding & 3 days of light bleeding.

I'm happy with it.

BUT everyone has their own opinions...

Microval is only for when you are breastfeeding. I was on Mirelle after the twins were born until last month then I went to Femodene and that is a wonderful pill. I just have problems with weight gain after I went off the pill to get preggies (hormones all messed up)

I was on Mirelle, and found it very good other than the pigmentation that it caused on my face, but having said that, I am prone to pigmentation from the sun, hormones, looking at me strangely etc...

Here goes (I had a 17 day cycle with 8-10 days of bleeding when I was 14, so I went on the Pill then):
Triphasil: Way too much hormones, gave me crazy PMS. My second gynae flipped his lid when he found out my first gynae gave me that.
Melodene: gave me migraines
Femodene: gave me migraines
Yasmin: Made me bloated and very depressed. Used it for four months.
Minesse: WONDERFUL. Light cycles, regular as clockwork. Still have PMS, but not so badly.

Triphasel is a very old fashioned pill, not very good, the idea behind the triphasic hormones flawed.
There are basically your 30 microgram estrgen pills (femodene, yasmin, ect) which has a stronger control and you don't need to be so careful when missing one, and your 15 mics (yaz, mirelle ect) which is nice - less hormones but less strong control, bigger chance og pregnancy if you miss one, more breakthrough bleeds.

The difference lies in the type of progesterone which is way different people respond differently.

There are also now 3months cycle pills, very new, don't know too much about them.

I am on Mirelle, better for me than Yasmin.
